Every year, we witness the power of unity among humanity—a single species with a shared purpose: the protection of freedom, security, and our natural world.

In 2024, the World Organization for Sustainability Leadership proudly presents the United Nations SDG-Junior Ambassador Competition, centered around Goal #14: Life Below Water. This extraordinary event empowers student artists and orators to embody this mission of preservation.

Topic Focus: SDG #14 Life Below Water

"Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development”

  • Our planet's lifeblood flows through its oceans, covering more than 70 percent of the Earth's surface. Beyond their awe-inspiring expanse, oceans play a pivotal role in supporting life, providing sustenance, and even influencing the very weather patterns that shape our world. Remarkably, the oceans also act as guardians, absorbing approximately a quarter of the globe's annual carbon dioxide emissions. This vital process not only mitigates the impacts of climate change but also offers a respite from its far-reaching effects.
  • Furthermore, the oceans are a bustling source of livelihood, offering employment to over 3 billion individuals whose lives are intimately intertwined with the bounty of marine biodiversity. Amidst this intricate dance of life, a paramount duty beckons: the imperative to conserve and harness the oceans' resources sustainably. However, the footprint of human activity casts a shadow upon these vast watery expanses – the Earth's most extensive ecosystem.
  • The repercussions reverberate, touching not only the delicate balance of marine life but also impacting the well-being of countless communities whose fortunes are woven into the tapestry of the seas.

  • The oceans, teeming with life and brimming with stories, have always captivated our imagination. Yet, they now stand at a critical juncture, calling for our dedicated stewardship. With each passing year, our commitment to sustainability becomes more imperative, and this competition serves as a reminder that OUR ACTIONS TODAY SHAPER THE WORLD TOMORROW.
  • As an organization deeply rooted in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, we recognize that Goal #14 not only speaks to the preservation of marine ecosystems but also to the sustenance and livelihoods of countless communities worldwide. By embracing this theme, we acknowledge our responsibility as committed partners to the UN's vision, working tirelessly to ensure the vitality of our oceans for present and future generations.

YOU are the future and within YOU lie the answers!

Your participation in the 2024 United Nations SDG-Junior Ambassador for Life Below Water Orator and Illustrator Competition is a stride toward transformation. It is a testament to your commitment to shaping a world where the oceans flourish, communities thrive, and a legacy of stewardship endures.

As you step onto this platform of creativity and advocacy, remember that each stroke of a brush and every word uttered holds the potential to reverberate beyond the competition's confines. You possess the innate power to inspire, awaken, and stir change. By lending your voice and vision, you become a harbinger of hope, breathing life into a future where the oceans' song continues to enchant and sustain us all.”

How do I participate ?

You can participate in the competition as either an Orator or Illustrator. Orators will develop a short and concise video of themselves discussing anything relevant to the topic focus of the year. Likewise, illustrators will create a unique and original artwork (hand drawn) relating to topic focus of the year.

There are no right or wrong answers and thus content (oratory or illustration) will be judged on originality, creativity, applicability and presentation. It is imperative to gather the power of young people around the world to promote world peace and prosperity.

Examples might include;
•. How one envisions achieving the goal
•. What transformations need to occur in ones local community, city, or government in order for this goal to be realized
•. How does the absence of this goal affect relationships within society at various income levels?
